Eulenloch Vineyard, located in Napa Valley's Carneros region, features shallow clay soils and benefits from cool coastal breezes. These factors contribute to the vineyard's production of ripe, complex, and nuanced fruit, leading to a Pinot Noir with notable structure, suppleness, length, and depth.
The grapes are harvested in the early morning to maintain their cool temperature, preserving fresh flavors. After destemming, the berries are cold-soaked for up to two weeks to soften the skins and optimize extraction. Fermentation takes place in both closed and open-top stainless steel tanks, using punch-downs and pump-overs to extract color and tannins while controlling temperatures and maximizing flavors. Only the free-run juice is barreled, with aging for nine months in 100% French oak barrels, 60% of which are new. The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation and is racked twice before final blending.
Tasting Notes
This Pinot Noir displays a deep garnet red color with aromas of black currant, cherry pie filling, cedar, and milk chocolate. Rich flavors of dark fruit, including ripe plum, sweet black cherry, and boysenberry, are complemented by hints of sage and thyme. The wine is bold yet well-balanced, featuring supple, refined tannins and a long, satisfying finish.
